Welcome
to my site. I'm Kathy Bigham Love. I was born and raised in Austin Texas
by a wonderfully supportive family; Mom and Dad, my sister, and three
brothers. Of course, I will not forget the numerous uncles, aunts, and
cousins that encourage me to draw, draw, draw girl.
I am a somewhat self-taught artist, creating works of
art as soon as I could pick up a pencil, or should I say a crayon - so
told by my mom. That is not to say that I have had no formal
instruction. My mom sat me down around age eight and showed me how to
draw a face, and I was forever fascinated. I received recognition and
awards in art during my years of early education. I was published before
leaving high school.
I took a long break from art to start a family. So
in the last couple of years I've been playing "catch up" so to speak. I have
participated in numerous exhibits and competitions. I am currently teaching classes at
the Artists' Alliance Art Studio in Sugar Land Texas, providing instruction to both
children and adults of all levels. I also offer custom artwork. Please see
the "Commissions" page for additional information.
I feel that everyone is an artist in some form or
fashion. Some people have a talent for organizing, or managing money.
Some have a talent for sports or intellectual competition. But all
talents need to be developed and practiced. I encourage artists of all
ages to practice their talent as often as they can, to seek formal
instruction if possible because it introduces tools and techniques that
are valuable, and never underestimate your potential. There are too many
artists out there that do not share their gifts because of insecurities.
I was one of them. Believe me. It is an injustice to more than just
yourself.
Now, for those of you that would like to pick up some
tools and techniques in the fine arts arena, please call or email me for
available class times and upcoming workshops.
I specialize in black and white art, creating depth and perspective with
the use of various medium. But I also work with colored pencil, pastels,
watercolor, and oil.
I find graphite pencil and charcoal to be very exciting
and not to be undervalued. This medium is primarily used for sketching.
I like to take the medium to another level by creating complete and
detailed works that peek the viewers interest. I believe my works allow
the viewer to see the color of their own imaginations.
